Pattaya Marathon 2009
I have not blogged since my last marathon in KL.
Time to start writing again , if this is going to be the case , than i probably be blogging 3-4times a year. =D
Day 1
We met up with YH at the airport. A 2hrs plane ride and 90mins bus ride later. We arrived in pattya. There was posters, banners on the marathon almost everywhere.
Check-into the hotel which was like 30metres from the start point. Race expo was about the same distance away.. Saw some sgrunners and many singaporeans.
Lunch was next, Oishi ramen was on the menu , swensens sundae was next.
With some time to spare , a movie came next. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I slept through the 1st hour of the movie..(Yawns)
With some time to spare , a movie came next. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I slept through the 1st hour of the movie..(Yawns)
After movie we had dinner. Met up with YH and her friends who brought us to this restaurant by the sea. . Than we headed up this hill to catch a night view of the city. All cities looks the same to me though. Headed back to the hotel for a rest to prepare for the morning run.
Day 2
Alarm rang at 3.50am. Snooze till 4.00am. Marathon start time is at 4.30am. Took a slice of bread , armed myself with a bottle of gatorade and off i went. The wheelchair category was flagged off at 4:20am. we were flag off 10mins later. Judging from the time i took to cross the starting point, there should be about 800 runners doing the full distance.
I am very impressed with organizers for this event. The road was totally closed for the runners to run on. They divided the other side of the road into 2, so it doesn really affect drivers, maybe just a bit of jam. . Only bad part most of the route is running on the highway. So might get a bit bored for the 1st part of the run.
Distance markers was place at almost every km. I said almost because i might miss out on a few markers. But managed to see about 90% of it.
My 1st 10.5km took me 55mins. It consist of a long stretch of gentle downhill.
My 2nd 10.5km took me 53mins. The 2nd quarter is the opposite. A long stretch of gentle uphill.
Again , the organizers got me impress. Water points were place at almost every 2km or 2.5km apart. Why almost? Cause there is some water points which were only 1km apart. Only no isotonic drinks. But plenty of ice water.
The 3rd 10.5km took me a long long time. So did the last quarter. Why? Cause i never expect it to be so hilly. A extract from one of the articles stated this. Being one of the most popular but also hardest marathon courses, the Pattaya Marathon 2009 is definitely not for the light-hearted.Pattaya Marathon 2009, which will take place on July 19th, is definitely one of the toughest courses one can find. It runs through hills and follows the picturesque beach road which adds to the appeal and the enjoyment of the event. Not all individuals can handle the tough route with the numerous hills and the steep inclines. To read more about it, please click here .
So walking up the hills become very common after the 30km mark. Although the last 5km was flat and running beside the sea. Its not very good to have the sea breeze hitting you head on after 37km.
Still i enjoyed the scenic beach route , hills and steep inclines.
**Official Results
Number of marathon runners = 660
Number of finishers = 603
Chip time = 3:46:04, gun time = 3:52:01
Well, thats not all , the fun actually started only after the run.

MR25 Cross Country Marathon
I decided to try doing the Cross Country Marathon in MR after completing 84km 2weeks ago.
I never expect that the lack of sleep will cause me to suffer quite a bit for this.
My Preparation for Cross Country Marathon.
Did 1 lap around MR 1week after 84km to get myself used to the terrain. Thats about it.
MR XC Marathon consists of 4laps of 10.5km around Macritchie Reservior.
Registration is free for MR25 members. Public have to pay $20 bucks for the race.
1st Lap was 55mins.
2nd Lap was 57mins.
3rd Lap was 56mins.
And my last Lap took 1Hr 40mins. Fantastic. The sleep monster took over my mind and i had to take a nap.
And so 4hrs 46mins was my finish time for the Run. Good Job Keep it up.
Have to remember to sleep more before a run.
